ACTU Helps Casting for Recovery Print E-mail

Saturday October 28 was a cold and windy morning.  A brisk wind was blowing over the river.  Now, before you get too far along, this is not a fishing trip story.  This is a story of helping out a good cause.  In fact, people gave up their Saturday to fish to help out with Casting for Recovery.

Gary and Wanda Taylor came to Chattanooga to help raise funds and awareness for the event.  Trout Unlimited assisted greatly with their cause, donating time, efforts and talent.  Several members of the Appalachian Chapter including Steve Fry, Charles Barkley, Greg Fairchild and Jeff & Michelle Wall all assisted with the casting portion of the event.  With what I estimate to be a 15 to 20 mph crosswind, this truly was an endeavor.

Dr. Boyd Jr. and Dr. Boyd Sr. and Debora Prytula all showed off their talents tying flies and instructing others.  Also present were members of the Mid-South Fly Fishers out of Memphis, TN.  Chris Allen assisted with casting while Lesley his wife and Secretary of MSFF demonstrated tying.  Kathy Post a past President of MSFF was also tying.  With the wind, the tying was truly a challenge with feather and fur blowing hither and yon.

There were also representatives from other TU chapters in the area as well.  Survivors and staff of CFR were available to answer questions regarding the event.  All in all, the event was successful in raising funds and awareness of the program.

A special thanks to all who gave up their fishing time to help out for a good cause.
