Have you ever been standing out in the middle of your favorite stream tying on your lucky fly while trying to tuck your rod under your arm to keep from dropping it? Have you ever wondered why you have that odd little velcro tab up on your vest's left shoulder? It really dosen't hold flies for drying worth a darn....does it? And that bottle of floatant hanging from that loop at the bottom right of your vest seems to defeat the purpose of keeping things up high and dry on you, too.
Well, the ingenious fly fisherman who designed fly-fishing vests were really thinking when they came up with this fix. I'm sure they fought the same currents we did and finally had enough one day and said to their fishing buddy, "Hey, I have an idea. See what you think of this. What if we put a loop at the bottom of the vest to put the rod butt down in and a velcro tab to hold secure the rest of the rod then we can be hands-free to do whatever?" Of course the fishing buddy said something like, "You idiot, why are you out here thinking about work instead of fishing? I think the sun is getting to your brain!" Lucky for us he didn't quit thinking about it and went ahead and installed the 'rod holder' on our vests! Many fisherman have no idea this exists on their vests and may be relieved to learn about it. So, if you don't believe this, or, of course, need an excuse to be out fishing, use this one to sneak out and give it a go!!! Michelle Wall |
