Cumberland River Fishing Report 11/01/07 Print E-mail
Friday, 02 November 2007
The Cumberland River below wolf creek dam on lake Cumberland is fishing exceptionally well right now. Flow rates are consistent and low, which make for perfect drift boat fly fishing. This scenario should remain intact with short term forecasts for dry and mild weather in the area. We are currently drifting two different stretches between the dam and Bakerton, KY.

Fall 2007 is the first fall in three years that we have seen low flows on the river. Both the rainbows and browns are spawning successfully. Redds are on most every gravel bar and shoal area. Fishing is best in shallow water with light nymph rigs. We are releasing good numbers of fish, with many in the slot of 15" - 18" and some larger. The last ten fish on the "20 Inch club" page of our website were taken here in the last few weeks. www.southeasternanglers.com

We have two boats available from November 11th - 20th, as well as a few dates before then. I expect the fishing to remain good throughout the remainder of the year. We have some small cabins near our meeting place and launch areas that we are staying at. They are not fancy, but clean and affordable. The Lake Cumberland State Park Resort is also nearby. We are booking trips now. Phone # 423-338-7368, cell # 770-655-9210. Thanks, Dane.

Tennessee Overhill Fishing Report October 2007 Print E-mail
Sunday, 07 October 2007

We have completed an exceptional summer season the streams and rivers that we fish. Due to dry conditions, the tailwaters proved to be the best thing going. September and early October are traditionally our transition months. Fall fishing usually kicks in mid to late October and runs right on into winter. The last few years, November and December have been great. I feel like the winter fishing will be better than normal this year due to lake levels. We may see an abundance of shad put into the tailwaters this winter.

Fishing the Elk River—in West Virginia Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 August 2007
The Elk River is West Virginia’s premier trout stream among many great streams.  What makes the Elk exceptionally is its geology.  The Elk’s tributaries flow west off of Cheat Mountain and eventually flow into the Ohio.  The Slaty Fork is the main flow, that is until it disappears into the side of a cliff!  Eight miles below that cliff are a number of springs called “Elk Springs”—the official start of the Elk.

Tennessee Overhill Fishing Report - 8/01/07 Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 August 2007

Hiwassee River - TVA is currently running two turbines from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. daily. The schedule will remain in effect until Labor Day. The water temp of 56 degrees is unusually cool for this time of year. As a result, insect activity and fly fishing is very good. We have daily afternoon hatches of several size and species of olives, and Isonychias. The dry fly fishing is the best of the season so far. Matching the hatch , and big attractor dries. Boogers are also working. August may very well be our
best month of fishing on the river this year. The Quality zone continues to fish well with larger fish rising at the stair steps in the evenings. This has got to be some of the best dry fly fishing in the southeast right now.
