Let's Go Fishing Out West Print E-mail
Thursday, 26 October 2006
Hello, my name is Charles Bagley.  I have fished in the western states every summer since 2000, the year I retired. I am interested in getting a group from our chapter on a fishing trip out West. I am willing to act as a chairperson for planning the trip. Those interested would be fully involved in planning all facets of the trip. We will meet either before or after the Appalachian Chapter's monthly meeting and begin to put some ideas together. Hopefully, we can minimize cost and maximize our fishing experience. If you are interested, please send your name, email address, and phone number through the Chapter's Contact Us menu on our web site.

The Old and the New Print E-mail
Sunday, 15 October 2006
As I read the latest edition of Long Casts, I noticed the theme of this year’s conclave, “Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Fly Fisher.”  This title started me on a trip down memory lane.  I began to think about my experiences fly fishing, how things have progressed and how things have changed since I began fly fishing.

Just in case… Print E-mail
Sunday, 15 October 2006
I was intrigued by Six Flies Revisited by John Berry in the August 2006 issue of Tight Lines and Tall Tails.   Having been guided by John, I can personally attest to his knowledge of the rivers and fly patterns for Arkansas.  This article made me think, which is exactly what a well-written column is supposed to do.

The reason this article by Mr. Berry stuck a chord with me is because of the simplicity and reorganization of the fly selection for maximum efficiency.  These are the productive patterns that will work on the Norfork and White.  John has streamlined his fly box to carry essential flies, totaling six patterns, which will work for the area waters he fishes and guides.  I figured I would take his advice and look into doing the same with both my fly boxes and vest.  Get organized and simplify.

A Time for a Change Print E-mail
Friday, 15 September 2006

Fall is in the air.  The leaves are beginning to show the hues of yellow and red.  The evening temperatures are cooling off enough for a light jacket.  The heat and humidity of a Mid-South summer is giving way to dry air and clear blue skies.  The days are growing shorter and soon we will be changing the clocks back an hour ending daylight savings time.  Nature is in transition and so am I.  During this time of year, I change my focus from bass and bream to trout.  The warm water season has ended and I am now changing both gear and tactics.

Fall on the Nantahala Print E-mail
Friday, 15 September 2006
What a day—and the fishing was good also.  We journeyed to the Nantahala South of Highway 19 in North Carolina and drove about halfway into the “Delay Harvest” area.  A foggy morning greeted Charles Bagley and I but the Sun broke through before noon.
