Annual Tellico River Clean Up, March 8th |

The annual Tellico River Clean Up will be held Saturday, March 8, 2008. Registration will begin at 8:00 AM at the Tellico Ranger Station as well as the State Line Campground.
Trash bags will be provided along with road side pick up of the bags. Wear long pants, long sleeves, and sturdy shoes. Bring a snack, a drink, gloves, and a friend!
T-Shirts will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
McNabb Group Campground will be available Friday and Saturday nights for cleanup participants.
The event is sponsored by the USDA Forest Service, TVA, Trout Unlimited, and the Southern 4 Weel Drive Association.

Annual Brook Trout Restoration and Monitoring Results For the Upper Tellico River Tributaries, August 18, 2007 Jim Herrig Fisheries Biologist Cherokee National Forest The Cherokee National Forest in cooperation with Trout Unlimited and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) have implemented a systematic approach for the brook trout restoration and monitoring in the Tellico River watershed. Since the early 1980’s these partners have recognized the need to protect the brook trout populations in the Tellico area from competing, non-native trout species. 2007 marks the 19th consecutive year of partnership efforts in this watershed. Initial rotenone treatments isolated the brook trout from competing rainbow trout; subsequent annual electrofishing surveys have been effective in maintaining the brook trout populations and in documenting the success of the program. Finally, instream work has improved brook trout habitat. |

 The new State of TN "Trout Unlimited" License tags have been approved. Applications will be available at the next ACTU Chapter meeting. We also plan to have applications at our local fly shops soon. |

2007 Tellico Cleanup Summary |

The annual Tellico River Cleanup was held on March 10th. This year 212 people participated from several states, including Colorado, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. 213 bags of trash were picked up on the Tennessee side of the cleanup and 2400 lbs on the North Carolina side.
Thanks to everyone that helped. The preliminary date for next year's cleanup is March 8.

Annual Hiwassee River Cleanup |

The Hiwassee Chapter of Trout Unlimited is holding their annual river cleanup next Saturday. Help us make the Hiwassee Scenic River one of the most beautiful rivers of the southeast. Meet at the new State Park office located on Spring Creek Road off Highway 411, just north of the Hiwassee River Bridge.
Bring gloves, work boots, and safety glasses.
Garbage bags will be provided.
Trout Unlimited will provide a meal to participants afterward.
