As many of you already know, Walter is a highly respected fly fishing angler who knows how to accurately evaluate a wide variety of fishing situations and proceed in a way that often ends in success. Some people consider Walter to be one of the most skilled anglers to fish for those elusive trout in the Smoky Mountains. Without a doubt, he is a well-spring of information about fly fishing, from one’s choice of tackle, flies, and weight, to one’s approach, positioning and casting technique. Walter will be tying some of his trademark flies while discussing how, when, and where to fish them. So, you may wish to attend this meeting, prepared to take written notes. He is also a well respected bamboo rod maker, and may talk about these activities with us as well. Walter is a frequently sought after fly fishing and fly tying instructor at Little River Outfitters in Townsend, Tennessee. He is a very interesting storyteller, as he knows a lot of the history related to various fishing locations, anglers, flies, and fly fishing tackle. He also can provide some interesting tales about how he originally tied flies “back in the old days,” without the use of specialized fly tying tools, such as bobbins.
