The Cumberland River below wolf creek dam on lake Cumberland is fishing exceptionally well right now. Flow rates are consistent and low, which make for perfect drift boat fly fishing. This scenario should remain intact with short term forecasts for dry and mild weather in the area. We are currently drifting two different stretches between the dam and Bakerton, KY.
Fall 2007 is the first fall in three years that we have seen low flows on the river. Both the rainbows and browns are spawning successfully. Redds are on most every gravel bar and shoal area. Fishing is best in shallow water with light nymph rigs. We are releasing good numbers of fish, with many in the slot of 15" - 18" and some larger. The last ten fish on the "20 Inch club" page of our website were taken here in the last few weeks. www.southeasternanglers.com
We have two boats available from November 11th - 20th, as well as a few dates before then. I expect the fishing to remain good throughout the remainder of the year. We have some small cabins near our meeting place and launch areas that we are staying at. They are not fancy, but clean and affordable. The Lake Cumberland State Park Resort is also nearby. We are booking trips now. Phone # 423-338-7368, cell # 770-655-9210. Thanks, Dane. |

We have completed an exceptional summer season the streams and rivers that we fish. Due to dry conditions, the tailwaters proved to be the best thing going. September and early October are traditionally our transition months. Fall fishing usually kicks in mid to late October and runs right on into winter. The last few years, November and December have been great. I feel like the winter fishing will be better than normal this year due to lake levels. We may see an abundance of shad put into the tailwaters this winter. |

Trout, Unlimited’s Appalachian Chapter would like to announce our first “Camping and Fishing” weekend at the McNabb Creek campground on the North River, at Tellico, from Friday, October 12 through Sunday, October 14. This family-style event is open to members and non-members alike, and we would like to extend a special invitation to other Trout, Unlimted chapters as well.
This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in beginning in the sport as well. There will be men and women there with various degrees of experience that will be glad to share their interest with others.
So come and join us for a relaxing weekend of fishing and camping! More details will be forthcoming next month. A small donation to cover the cost of the campground will be appreciated. Directions to McNabb Creek Group Campground
In Tellico Plains (at the junction of Hwy 68 and 165), drive east on Hwy 165 (Tellico-Robbinsville road or Cherohalla Hwy). At the east edge of town stay on Hwy 165; do not turn onto Hwy 360. Continue on Hwy 165 for about 5 miles. It parallels the Tellico River and crosses it once. Just passed the Oosterneck pulloff, take Forest Service Road (FSR) 210 toward Bald River Falls and the Ranger Station. Continue on FSR 210 for about 11 miles to North River Road (FSR 217). It parallels Tellico River and crosses it once. Continue on FSR 217 for about 2.5 miles. It parallels North River. You will cross a bridge over Hemlock Creek. When the road turns right to cross the bridge over North River, turn left into McNabb Creek Group Campground. |
